Eugene police take armed man on balcony into custody after negotiation
Eugene, OR – Eugene Police safely took a man into custody on February 4 after responding to reports of a naked individual armed with a handgun and making threats from a balcony on Shadow View.
Officers arrived at 6:11 p.m. alongside the Crisis Negotiation Team, Drone Team, and some SWAT personnel to contain the situation and protect residents.
A Wireless Emergency Alert advised nearby residents to shelter in place.
At 8:13 p.m., the man voluntarily surrendered following negotiations led by a first-time lead negotiator, who established a rapport within 15 minutes.
He was taken to a hospital for mental health treatment, and his firearms were secured for safekeeping.
