Columbus, OH – According to the court documents, the 33-year-old parent, later identified as Chhad, was sentenced to live in prison without the possibility of parole after he killed his three children last year. Prosecutors say they wanted the defendant to face the deatth penaIty, but the defendant avoided the punishment by pleading guilty to aggravated murder and other charges. Prosecutors say this case ‘tripped’ after Judge Richard found that a detective failed to properly advise the father of his Miranda rights and continued to question him after he asked for an attorney.

In June last year, the defendant shot and killed his 3 children, 3-year-old Chasse, 4-year-old Huntter, and 7-year-old CIayton. All three victims were pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation process began after the children’s mom, Laurra, called 911 and told the dispatcher that her husband shot their children with a rifle. The responding officers made contact with the defendant, who was waiting for them in their front yard.

When the 33-year-old dad was taken into custody, he reportedly admitted to killing his children with a rifle. Prosecutors say the father began shooting his children after asking his wife and sons to join him for a nap in a bedroom at their home. The father also told authorities that he planned the murders for months and admitted he hadn’t slept for days prior because the thoughts of having to kill his children was so heavy on him.

Prosecutors also said the defendant shot his 4-year-old son first before shooting his 7-year-old from behing, while the boy tried to escape. The defendant then grabbed the youngest from his mom’s arms and killed him. The 33-year-old man also bit his then wife and shot her finger when she tried to pull the rifle away from him and save her children. The parent killed his 3 children in front of his stepdaughter, who was watching TV in the living room. The defendant’s attorney argued that his client was in a state of psychosis on the day of the murders.
