Charlotte, N.C. – According to the court documents, the young mom, later identified as Launica, was sentenced to nearly 10 years behind bars for her role in her children’s death. The woman reportedly left her children, 2-year-old Trinitty and 3-year-old Amera, in her vehicle for nearly 7 hours so she can do and gambIe. When she exited the caslno, the woman realized that her children were unresponsive and she took the to the hospital.
Unfortunately, both girls were pronounced dead. According to the court documents, the woman was sentenced after pleading guilty to second-degree murder. Per reports, the mother initially faced 80 years in prison after prosecutors charged her with two counts of murder. During the sentencing, prosecutors reportedly said that they didn’t find any aggravating factors that could have increased her sentence.
The fatal incident occurred in August 2022. Officers responded to the local hospital after the doctors realized that both children arrived unresponsive and were later pronounced dead. An autopsy later revealed that both children died of hyperthermia. During the investigation process, authorities reportedly discovered that the mother left her 2-year-old and 3-year-old daughters in hot vehicle behind a caslno for nearly 7 hours.
When the mother finished gambIing, she realized that her daughters were not breathing and took them to the hospital. The mother’s relative, Kelsha, reportedly told local news outlet that Launica was not a bad mom and she ‘just made a mistake’. The woman reportedly said: “She was always there. She’s a caring and loving mother to her kids at the end of the day. She’s not a cold-blooded murderer. She’s not a killer.”
