The Lane County Fair saw a significant increase in security measures this year, thanks to a partnership between the Eugene Police Department and the Lane County Sheriff’s Office

Eugene, OR – According to the police officials, these measures aimed to create a safer and more welcoming environment for families attending the event.

Some of the notable changes included the addition of metal detectors at fair entrances, an increased and enhanced law enforcement presence throughout the fairgrounds and parking lots, and overlapping shifts of officers and deputies during peak times.

These safety enhancements were in addition to the private security already hired for the fair.

EPD Chief Chris Skinner emphasized the importance of safety at such community events, stating, “County fairs across America provide opportunities for friends and families to come together and enjoy the offerings of their unique area.

It’s important to us as a police department to provide a safe and secure place for that enjoyment. If you plan on coming to the fair and engage in unsafe behavior, stay home.”

Sheriff Cliff Harrold echoed this sentiment, highlighting the fair’s long-standing tradition. “For over a century, the Lane County Fair has been a cherished tradition in our community. This year, we are proud to collaborate with the fair and other agencies to ensure a fun and safe environment where families can come together, create lasting memories, and celebrate our county. Let’s all work together to keep the fair enjoyable for everyone.”

The Lane County Fair, held at 796 W. 13th Avenue, is a highly anticipated summer event known for its rides, games, exhibits, and entertainment, appealing to people of all ages. The enhanced security measures were implemented to ensure that attendees could fully enjoy the fair’s offerings without concerns for their safety.
