ESF Water Rescue team successfully rescued a swimmer who had become trapped in a strainer

Eugene, OR – According to the Eugene Springfield Fire officials, at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, July 20th, the Water Rescue team successfully rescued a swimmer who had become trapped in a strainer below the Hayden Bridge boat launch.

The individual, who was not wearing a life vest, was in a life-threatening situation.

The incident underscores the critical importance of wearing a life vest, as the choice not to can have deadly consequences in the cold and swift waters of our rivers.
