ESF crews focused on protecting the town of Spray by using the back burning technique

Eugene, OR – According to the officials, Eugene Springfield Fire firefighters assigned to the Lone Rock Fire on Friday immediately went to work upon their arrival that night, focusing on protecting the town of Spray in Eastern Oregon.

They employed back burning, a technique that involves lighting a controlled fire to remove fuels ahead of the main body of the fire.

This method is typically performed at night due to the more favorable conditions for maintaining control of the fire.

This deployment marked the first time ESF’s new type 6 engine has been used in action.

Additionally, ESF’s Brush 9 and 13 have been doing excellent work as part of the Lane County Taskforce.
