Mom grabbed her gun after her son insulted her and then shoved her off the grass cutter, then fired warning shots before she killed him because ‘she just wanted to scare him and stop’; sentenced
Little Rock, Ark. – According to the court documents, the 44-year-old mother from Arkansas, later identified as Tabata, was sentenced to 3 years in prison after she killed her 27-year-old son, Branon, last year in May. Prosecutors also said the woman received additional suspended sentence of 7 years. According to the court documents, the 44-year-old mom was initially charged with second-degree murder and other charges, but prosecutors dismissed those charges in exchange for pleading guilty to mansIaughter.
The fatal incident occurred in May last year. Officers responded to the defendant’s home after the mother told the dispatcher that she killed her son. During an interview with investigators, the mother reportedly admitted to shooting her son following an argument over the grass cutter. The woman reportedly told investigators that she was cutting the grass outside their Iawn when the movver got stuck.
The woman then called the victim to help her. The 27-year-old son helped the woman only for her to call him again a while later. When the victim returned, he reportedly insulted his mother and pushed her off the movver. The woman then walked to her vehicle and grabbed her gun. She then realized that her som was coming to the vehicle and she fired several warning shots, to make him stop.
The son reportedly continued walking towards the woman when she fired the fatal shot, because she ‘just wanted to scare him and stop. The 27-year-old son was shot in the chest area and later pronounced dead. The 44-year-old woman reportedly shot her child when he was less than 18 feet away from her.
