Eugene, OR – As all pet owners know by now, this holiday can be particularly stressful for animals due to the loud noises and bright lights from fireworks.

The Oregon State Fire Marshal and the Oregon Humane Society have shared some important guidelines to ensure your pets’ safety and well-being:

  1. Keep Your Pets Indoors: Fireworks can scare pets, causing them to run away or get injured. Keeping them indoors in a safe and secure environment can help reduce their anxiety.
  2. Create a Safe Space: Set up a comfortable and quiet area in your home where your pet can retreat during fireworks. This space should have their favorite toys, blankets, and treats to help them feel secure.
  3. Be Careful with Open Windows and Doors: Scared animals often run out and get lost or injured during holidays. Ensure all windows and doors are securely closed to prevent any escapes.
  4. Update Identification: Make sure your pet has a collar with your contact information. This way, if they do get out, they can be easily returned to you.

By following these tips, you can help ensure your pet has a safe and stress-free Fourth of July. Remember, your pet’s safety is your responsibility. Let’s make this holiday enjoyable for both humans and their furry friends!
