Eugene launches construction on expanded Riverfront Plaza, officials say
Eugene, OR – The City of Eugene is excited to announce the start of construction on the Downtown Riverfront Plaza. Following a bidding process in mid-May, Brown Contracting, the firm that led the initial phase of the Downtown Riverfront Park, has been awarded the contract.
This new development phase will add approximately one acre to the park, extending across the Ruth Basom Riverbank Path. The project will create a versatile, open plaza space at the heart of the riverfront.
The plaza design integrates natural and urban elements, featuring a shady tree grove, interactive public art, a water feature and splash pad, a nature play area, and event space.
Thoughtfully placed seating areas and shaded spots will offer visitors comfortable places to relax and enjoy river views.
Construction is expected to take about a year, with the plaza opening in Summer 2025. Once completed, the plaza will become a central hub for community gatherings and activities, enhancing the vibrancy of Eugene’s riverfront.
