Eugene, OR – According to the officials, the camp, designed for young women aged 15 to 19, aims to introduce them to the fire service and inspire the next generation of female firefighters.

The day began with the campers getting suited up in their gear and meeting the dedicated staff, including the Chief and several female fire service leaders from across the country.

This provided an excellent opportunity for the young women to hear firsthand experiences and insights from those who have paved the way in the field.

Classroom sessions followed, where campers learned essential Emergency Medical techniques, laying a strong foundation for their hands-on training.

After a hearty lunch, the focus shifted to practical skills on the drill field. The young women participated in Hose Management, Hydrant to Show Water exercises, and various station rotations.

The field was alive with activity as campers worked together to complete tasks, their teamwork underscored by laughter and camaraderie. Frequent reminders to hydrate and reapply sun protection kept everyone safe and focused in the sunny weather.

“The energy and enthusiasm these young women brought to the camp today was truly inspiring,” said a camp organizer. “Seeing them work together, support each other, and tackle challenges head-on was incredible.”

With the first day in the books, the Young Women’s Fire Camp is off to a promising start. As the week progresses, these young women will continue to build their skills, confidence, and understanding of what it takes to be part of the fire service.
