EFD responded to a second alarm fire in a residential building

Eugene, OR – According to the report, the local fire department responded to a second alarm fire in a residential building in the 200 block of Wallis Street on Thursday afternoon.
The EFD reported that the roof collapsed from the fire but everyone made it out ok.
The Eugene firefighters were able to use chainsaws and hand tools to rescue the last remaining victim, a very large tortoise.
The owner of the reptile told firefighters it was 150 years old.
One of the firefighters that were on scene said the building appears to be a total loss.
The building housed commercial warehouse space as well as residential apartments.
