56-year-old man arrested, charged with assault following stabbing on High Street
Eugene, OR – Eugene Police responded to a reported stabbing in the 1500 block of High Street at 5:30 p.m. on March 9.
The victim, a 21-year-old, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of a stab wound.
Multiple Eugene Police units and Eugene Springfield Fire arrived at the scene, but the suspect had fled eastbound on 16th Avenue.
A Lane County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit was requested to assist in the search, but the suspect was not immediately located.
Hours later, at 8:27 p.m., the suspect, identified as 56-year-old Michael Joseph Schlimmer, called authorities to report his location outside Lane County Jail.
He was compliant and taken into custody without incident. Schlimmer was booked on a charge of first-degree assault.
